Chevy

Only some things of the past still make space or demand space as much as fine old machinery still working down the road. When finding this old Chevy I thought that I should spend some time with him only to make some notes and think through whether such a machine would be a good idea for a fix up project at home. Naw, the old house demands more attention, service and duct tape.

There might be much to learn from this Chevy. Just how is it that America has strayed away from utilitarian, quality and durability? And how is that when we find examples such as this that we want to return... Toyotas are fine (I named mine the Jimmy Dean), but there is less a soul in a Toyota as compared to old Chevys, Fords, Dodges and a cool Willys.

This one has some scars and blemishes with nothing detracting at all from the simple form and efficient utilitarian mission. This old Chevy is not quite AK-47 tough but it approaches that level of refined and determined purposeful application that I should like to have available in new cars today. It is a survivor.

Finally there is a campy DF lic plate up front that sets off the front end, but it hardly makes too much a statement - it just looks cool. I would have liked to take the old thing for a ride. Double clutch shifting is a drag really, but the best way to know a machine quickly is to talk to it while making a run to the corner store for a Big Shot. Make mine a creme soda.
